I started tattooing in May of 2007 shortly after moving to South Carolina. I apprenticed at Ivory Tiger Tattoos in Summerville. I chose to pursue an apprenticeship at Ivory Tiger because at the time there were only 3 shops in the area to choose from, and Ivory Tiger was the only artist owned shop. I apprenticed under a local artist named Bubba Long. He mostly did black and gray and was highly sought after because there weren’t too many legitimate tattooers in South Carolina yet, tattooing was just recently legalize. Since I apprenticed under an artist who did a lot of black and gray and my drawing style was mostly done in graphite pencil, black and gray realism was a perfect fit.
Over the years I set small goals to elevate my black and gray abilities watching them improve and customers started to take notice. I worked around and observed other artists who did black and gray and learned little tricks and techniques that would help me to improve. Other artists I worked with started to notice how much I improved and started sending people to me to do tattoos they didn’t feel comfortable doing. I was grateful that my hard work was being noticed.
In December of 2024 I opened Rise Above Tattoo Studio in Moncks Corner.
Plain and simple, you have ideas and I listen. Over the past two decades, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a lot of clients from all backgrounds to bring their tattoo ideas to life. The principle idea I have kept as a core philosophy in designing tattoos is that everyone has a story to tell and their ideas matter. I ask them if they right questions to figure out exactly what you’re looking to get.
